ball Sarigerme Holiday Tips & Hints

Sarigerme Holiday Tips & Hints

Electrical Appliances

The voltage is 220 Volts AC in all parts of the country.
Sometimes the power supply in resort can overload and cause power cuts. Attempts are always made to keep these to a minimum. Any electrical items you bring with you will work with a two pin adaptor.

Time

Turkish standard time between October and March is 2 hours ahead  Greenwich  Mean Time, 1 hour ahead of Central European Time, and 7 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. Between April and September GMT + 3 Hours. Time differences below may vary according to each country's own time-saving adjustments

Emergencies

Private and State hospitals, doctors surgeries and clinics are available all over Marmaris and Fethiye. Marmaris has three hospitals and English speaking doctors, dentists, opticians. Doctors charge for visits but this will be reimbursed upon return to your country if you have medical insurance. Medical health insurance is highly recommended

Sun Protection

The temperatures rise to a high of 45°C in August so high factor
suntan lotion is essential. Build up your tan slowly. All at once will make you ill. Keeping hydrated with water only is a must!
Children should be well covered with hats and hydrated

Water

Tap water in Sarigerme is chlorinated so it is best to drink bottled water, available everywhere. If used for drinking or making ice it should have first been boiled or otherwise sterilised. If a water source bears the words içilmez, it means that it is not for drinking; sources labelled içilir, içme suyu or içilebilir are safe to drink. Bottled spring water is widely available. Milk is pasteurised. During hot weather drink loads of water (bottled.. from the supermarkets). Remember that alcoholic drinks do little to cure dehydration...

Phone System

Public telephones are located throughout the resort. Pay phones are available operated with telephone cards, recognized by the green color and Turk Telecom sign on them. The telephone cards of 30, 60, 100 and 120 units are sold at the post offices, small markets, book stores.

Making the call

Local Calls- To call a number inside the city just dial the 7-digit telephone number directly.

Long Distance Calls- To call another city in Turkey find the 3-digit code you need and precede it with a 0, followed by the 7-digit phone number. The number should always start with a 0.

Operator Assisted Calls- The special number 131 for local calls or 115 for international calls will take you to Türk Telekom's operators. Register the desired telephone number and other details. Operator will place the call for you and will connect you to the desired number.

To make an international call from Turkey, dial

00 + Country Code + Area Code + Telephone Number.

A call from abroad to Turkey would have the same format. (Country Code of Turkey is 90). The area code for Mugla province that includes Sarigerme, Dalyan , Marmaris, Icmeler, Turunc, Datca, Bodrum and Fethiye is 252. For example, to call Marmarisinfo.com office from abroad you would dial 00 90 252 4112051.

Using a Turkish mobile phone
To call another mobile just dial the 10-digit mobile number and precede it with a 0. To call a fixed line number in Turkey, precede it with a 0 and the code, then finish off with the subscriber number.
Roaming
To call a fixed line telephone in Turkey, use +90 followed by the city code and subscriber number. Calling a Turkish mobile is almost the same as from a fixed line telephone (see above), only you should dial the last ten numbers, preceded of course with +90

Money

The new national monetary unit introduced in 2005 is New Turkish Lira (YTL) and Yeni Turkish Kurus (YKR). One New Turkish Lira is equivalent to a hundred New Kuruş. Turkish Lira was redenominated by dropping six zeros. In 2005 both the new and the old currencies the Turkish lira (TL) will be used. In fact, this year is final for using both currencies; also your last chance to enjoy being a millionaire in a foreign country! While converting Turkish Lira values into New Turkish Lira; one million Turkish Lira (1,000,000 TL) is equal to one New Turkish Lira (1 YTL).

In other words, just drop 6 zeros from the old currency. That is; 20,000,000 Turkish Lira and 20 New Turkish Lira will have the same purchasing power.
You may check further information about the official Turkish currency on
this website: http://www.tcmb.gov.tr/ytlkampanya/ The coinage is in 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 Yeni Kurus and 1 Yeni lira pieces. Bank notes are of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 new lira. The exchange rates for foreign currencies are published daily.
Eurochecks can be cashed immediately as can Travellers cheques upon producing identification. The most widely accepted credit cards are American Express, Eurocard, Diner's Club, Visa and Mastercard. Exchange offices in touristic places are generally open until midnight.
In resort there are ATM machines near every bank and large supermarkets like Tansas and Migros, also in most places you will be able to pay by credit card, be it a shop or a restaurant. Most Turkish banks charge commission on cash back and cash advances
so may be asked to cover this cost. Also most shops, restaurants and bars accept foreign currency for payments. Always check commission rates, as the exchange rate displayed outside is usually the Selling rate. You can also check the daily rate of TL on our website.
The exchange slips for the conversion of foreign currency into Turkish lira should be kept, since you may be required to show these when reconverting your Turkish lira back into foreign currency, and when taking souvenirs out of the country (to prove that they have been purchased with legally exchanged foreign currency).
There is no limit to the amount of foreign currency that may be brought into Turkey, but not more than $5,000 worth of Turkish currency may be brought into or taken out of the country.

Hint: Ordering YTL (Yeni Turkish Lira) in your country is an unnecessary loss of your holiday money. Once in Turkey, you can exchange GBP, USD, EURO or other convertible currency in small amounts or use your credit card.
For more hints please read Frequently Asked questions section.
Note: You may exchange traveller's checks at Post Offices in touristic places and at certain banks
