ball TIPS FOR TOURISTS

Hi, we have been coming to Sarigerme for years, and I always get asked many different questions about all sorts of things. So I spoke with my friends and asked if they would put this online for me to help you guys out. If however, you have any questions I haven’t listed, feel free to email me at ltdevelopments@live.com or even email these guys via the contact us page, they speak great English and will be completely honest with you.

QUESTION: Is it better to change my money before I come or when I get here?
ANSWER: wait until you arrive, you will get a better exchange rate normally plus UK travel agents charge commission, if you go to Basket Tours office they will give you the same rate as the Turkish Banks and not charge any commission at all, (this is good as there aren’t actually any banks in the village yet, the nearest being Ortaca).

QUESTION: How well do the village tour agencies compare to the hotels’ tours?
ANSWER: Personally I found the hotels prices completely overcharged. For example you will pay 27GBP for 1 adult for the popular 12 islands trips, yet if you come down the village you will pay just 15GBP (give or take a quid or too depending on the local competition) with BASKET, that like almost getting 2 for the price of 1 compared to First Choice. Also First Choice charge half price for all children except babies, BASKET charge half price on kids aged 7-12 and 0-6 is completely free!

QUESTION: Will we get ripped off buying sun cream and after sun in the village?
ANSWER: no, not really you can get brand name sun cream for approx. 9YTL which is approx. 3.75GBP (depending on exchange rates).

QUESTION: A lot of the reps are telling me the village is not safe, is this true?
ANSWER: NO!!! Sarigerme village is one of the most friendly, charming villages you could ever go to. Whether it’s day or night, you are completely safe, the only time I have ever seen any trouble in Sarigerme is when it has been actual holiday reps causing it! (Perhaps this is why they don’t want you down here)

QUESTION: Are the hotel prices for drinks, snacks, cigarettes etc. the same price as in the village?
ANSWER: No! The hotels charge you a lot more in the shops because they can. A couple of  examples; an ice cream that may cost you 2.5YTL in the village will cost you around 6YTL in the hotel shops, cigarettes may cost you 3YTL in the village will cost around 6YTL in the hotel. Basically everything is pretty much at least double.

QUESTION: Is there anything in the village-we’ve been told that there’s nothing to see or do?
ANSWER: Yes it is definitely worth a visit, if you can only get down one day, make it a Sunday, there are loads of shops, including souvenir, leather, jewelers, clothes, mini markets etc. There are tattoo shops, a reflexology shop, tour agencies, and plenty of bars and restaurants as well as the nightclub, just past the main village going toward the beach.  Plus of course we have the Sunday market where you can grab some serious bargains with loads of ‘genuine fakes’ it is actually a good laugh walking around, you will be offered cay (Turkish tea) and Turkish Delight normally while walking around, just don’t forget to haggle.

QUESTION: In the hotel it’s all inclusive, if I go into the village, will I be ripped off in restaurants or bars.
ANSWER: No, depending on where you go a large beer will cost on average 4YTL, that’s 1.66GBP, a meal consisting on average, rice, chips, kebab, salad, bread will cost approx 12YTL that’s 5GBP(exchange rate depending).

QUESTION: I have small children are all the trips okay still?
ANSWER: a lot are, however I wouldn’t recommend trips such as the safari’s to kids under 5years old, or trips where the bus journey will be long, however, trips such as Dalyan, 12 Islands, market trips, etc. you will all have a lovely day.

QUESTION: I need to buy medication while I am on holiday, what can I do?
ANSWER: simply pop down to the chemist in the village, by law as all medications are government regulated on the price you wont be overcharged, in fact like most things, you will probably find its cheaper here than in the UK. Also the guy who runs the chemist speaks good English and his medical knowledge is fantastic..(from personal experience).

QUESTION: I am quite sensitive, what can I do if I get dehydrated, or to prevent dehydration on the 1st place?
ANSWER: go to the chemist in the village and buy a product called GE-ORAL you get 2 sachets in a box and costs under 3YTL, you simply mix in 1 litre of water, and drink maybe a glass in the morning and evening, this will help.

QUESTION: Is it safe to drink tap water?
ANSWER: the tap water is Sarigerme is chlorinated so holiday makers are best off buying bottled water, again cheap a small bottle will cost approx. 50kurus (20p) a huge bottle will cost approx. 6YTL 2.50GBP.
